Yes. Some tailors even use the term "notch" for peaked lapels, referring to the spot where the collar meets the lapel.

Three reasons:

1) To get people to click on the thread.
2) To get people thinking about the options
3) To have the correct answer overwhelmingly selected.

Did that...no help...the search engine doesn't narrow the search down enough to zone in on the relevant post.

Specifically, the gorge is the sewn line between the top edge of the lapel and the collar. It starts at the notch and goes to the roll edge of the lapel, close to the neck.
It is not the v making the notch. That is the notch.
Also known as the gorge line.
The angle and height of the gorge defines the lapel & collar shape.

When people refer to a high gorge, this usually refers to a more horizontal seam. (see Despos' post above). A low gorge is more vertical. The poorly drawn image below should illustrate what the gorge is.

While it may be technically accurate, this is not how I (and most others here) use the terms "high gorge" and "low gorge". I generally use it to refer to the height of the gorge (and therefore notch) on the chest, rather than the angle of the gorge seam.

A high gorge coat will have the gorge/notch at collar bone height, whereas a low gorge one will have the vertical position of the notch/gorge much lower, sometimes as low as the bottom of the armhole

Understood. So by your definition, a low gorge coat would have a larger collar (if I read this right).

Anyone watch NFL network? I know athletes dress funky. Terrell Davis's 8 button suit for instance. But Rod Woodson takes the cake. Can someone explain wtf the guy on the right is wearing. I can't find a good pic. He had one where the collar, in the "reverse peak" was even longer like in my attachment pic.

The "V" between the lapels is the "throat".
The seam between the collar and lapel is the "gorge".
