Hey, y'all. I got this new pair of shoes with a really amazing and cool type of leather, which I have never seen before Can someone please tell me about it? What is it? How do I wear and care for it?

Thanks!

Could be cordovan, an equine leather. Keep away from fences.

Actually, just googled, the 'Malone' model is just distressed leather, flayed from a still living animal.

80 grit sandpaper should do nicely.

Seriously, I used to have some pig-skin suede that looked similar. I would treat it like any sueded leather: stiff brush and don't worry.

It looks like leather flesh-side-out, still showing the knifing marks (unlike suede which is also flesh-side-out,
but sanded to give it a smooth and even surface).

Nubuck perhaps?

I would lean towards treating it like suede. Perhaps you should call AE and ask about it though- they can tell you what it is for sure and give you advice on care.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
