What TV Series Are You Streaming Lately?

Saw Frequency in theatres, loved it and have revisited it many times. I’ll give anything a fair shake, even if it’s based on a pretty obscure movie like Frequency. Lethal Weapon had such potential but it turned into a deflating balloon after season 1. That’s the issue I think plaguing these movie turned shows; getting past season 1 with enough momentum. Again gotta give credit to Cobra Kai.

Just to be clear, I can't find any definitive info that says Signal was based on Frequency even if they certainly have their similarities. There was however an actual Frequency show that came out the same year with a story similar to the film. Anyway my point is that if you try Signal you shouldn't go into it expecting it to be Frequency, since a large part of the story in Signal is actually based and shaped around real crimes that have taken place in SK.

Also, completely unrelated to the previous discussion and my wholehearted encouragement for you all to try kdramas, WandaVision has also been great and is probably my favorite thing Marvel has ever done

I've been watching Midnight Diner on Netflix lately:

I'm really enjoying it. Each episode is generally self-contained, although there are recurring characters, so you can dip in and out and you don't feel the need to watch it through a particular plot arc or anything like that.

The characters are well-realised, there's comedy and pathos, and although the episodes are brief (30 mins including titles), the storylines are interesting. You also get a nice look at what Tokyo is like - the actual Tokyo where people live and socialise, not the shiny Ginza or Roppongi Hills scenes that you often see in movies.

Note: Netflix has a couple of different series - there's the original "Midnight Diner" and then "Midnight Diner - Tokyo Stories". I recommend watching Midnight Diner first.

Speaking of movies remade as shows, Frequency got this same treatment a year or two ago. The most depressing thing: the dad was in the late 90s.

I guess I might have to give that one a chance now. I still think Lethal Weapon was one the biggest successes of movies made into shows, that was until they replaced the actor playing Riggs with Seam William Scott. Nothing wrong with him as an actor, but replacing a main character is almost never a good sign or a guarantee. It bothered me almost as much as replacing Terrance Howard with Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2 or Katie Holmes with the brash Maggie Gyllenhaal in the Dark Knight. Just offering contrast, not comparing a low level show like Lethal Weapon to blockbuster hits such as Iron Man or The Dark Knight

While the show will go on without one of its biggest characters, the series will include appearances from other names in Harris' novel not mentioned in NBC's Hannibal series -- which ran for three seasons -- including Starling, Ardelia Mapp, serial killer Buffalo Bill, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Paul Krendler, and some others.

Yeah, removing Lecter is totally going to make this fresh and new and original, just like all 40 of those catch a serial killer movies where Morgan Freeman plays the detective.

Nah I skipped that one. Between Beyoncé and Queen Latifah I’d say Latifah is certainly the better actress but then again that’s not saying much by comparison. It’s hard for me to forget that she’s a musician. Unless the role relies heavily on music, it’s hard for me to get into the character and create that fourth wall, so to speak. I think she’s a good in roles as a supporting actor, like “Stranger Then Fiction”, she was great in that. Not trying to take away her successes, as she’s another stunning example of a New Jersey success story. Our state has certainly made plenty of those on the stage and screen.

Speaking of actors who are seriously committed to their craft, they don’t get more committed then Bale

I wonder about the long term health effects on Christian Bale from these huge swings in weight. McConaughey to a lesser extent

Phil Hartman as Hannibal Lecter is a stretch. In fact, Phil Hartman playing anything other than corpse is a huge stretch.
