What trousers to wear with a black corduroy sports jacket?

I recently purchased a nice black corduroy sports jacket\\blazer in a sale. I'm going to an evening do for a wedding in a couple of weeks and I'm in a dilema what sort of trousers/shirt to wear with it. I'm not sure whether it can be worn with smart(ish) black trousers (either plain or pinstriped). Maybe grey trousers would be better. Then should I wear a plain shirt or could I wear a striped shirt. Am I best to stick to white or can I get away with a coloured shirt - of course it all depends on the trousers! Help! Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks

If I understood correctly you want to wear a black cord jacket to a wedding?
I don't know how the other guests will look, but to me this sounds far too informal.

Its not to the actual wedding. It is just the evening do afterwards which I am told is not formal.

If I were going to wear a black corduroy jacket, I might wear fuchsia (or rose or cerise) trousers with it. But I probably would not wear either to a wedding.

Then all bets are off.

I can't imagine back-corduroy-anything looking good.
The color and the fabric just clash in my eyes. Maybe I just have a poor imagination.

A nicely fitting black cord jacket looks great with jeans, IMHO.

If you insist on wearing the jacket.... Black with black probably would not look good. So you already have gray trousers? If they're plain-front, they should be compatible. Wear a shirt with some color and maybe a tasteful pattern (not a multi-stripe).

I agree with this.

Black corduroy is no easy match, but it has a workwear background with hunting jackets and La Forestière from Arnys, so a patterned shirt would be a good option along with cream/Brown flannel trouser
