Hey guys,

I am always unsure as to what "top" would go well with dark/black jeans.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the jeans, and your complexion. Also depends on what kind of shoes. However, a dark fitted tshirt, in gray or black, will often work, and a white button up is always great. In cooler weather, a very fitted, dark sweater works nicely. Light colors work well too, light blues and whites, but might not be the best on a really pale person.

Light green would work on many people.

On someone with skin that isn't ruddy or dislike of his red hair, red could look good. Pink would be even more versatile, although many guys fear it.

Also, a shirt could have more than one color.

My ideal style (and, say, Tom Ford or Hedi Slimane's) is a pair of dark blue or black jeans, a white shirt (or a knit, or a patterned shirt in neutral colours), a black suit- or leather jacket, and black shoes or boots. It's hard to go past.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
