I'm surprising my wife with a road trip to Stratford, ON for a little vacation in October (9th - 11th). We will be attending a couple of plays (I don't know which ones yet) so I'm wondering what to wear. Never been to Stratford, ON nor have I been to any sort of Shakespeare festival. Looks like all of the plays are in pretty swanky theatres so I'm wondering do I go sort of business casual think slacks button up shirt, or should i throw a blazer in the bag? Really kind of not sure. Will also be trying to find a nice place for dinner too so any help would be appreciated!

Whatever you wear, you'll probably be dressed better than 80% of the men. Why not wear a suit? You can ditch the tie if you want to dress it down a bit.

Wear what you like and feel comfortable in, and don't try to impress anyone.

It's fairly casual theatre so business casual wear is fine.

Bring good walking shoes as Stratford is nice to walk around in the fall.

I agree with fkl on both points. A nicely put together SC + odd trousers pairing will likely place you in the best-dressed 10% of the audience. Enjoy!

I've been to Stratford many times. People tend to dress in anything from cargo shorts and t-shirt to suit and tie. Three piece or tux would be too much. I agree with odd trousers + jacket if you want to look good without being overdressed.

If this is where you are speaking of - http://www.stratfordfestival.ca/, then the photos show a pretty casual atmosphere. That said, there may be plenty of occasion to dress it up a bit - suit for the man, dress for the lady. Otherwise, you could always go looking a tad bit like my avatar [IMG]

Anyway, again, should this be the place: this looks like the comedy play for the time you'll be there:

Seems like a fun time to be had. Enjoy.

Whatever you wear, enjoy your time. It's a beautiful town. Before she died, my aunt ran a bed and breakfast there, and I wish I'd have taken more opportunities to spend time there.

Just be sure to be comfortable...Uncut Shakespearean plays can run in excess of three hours.

Definitely casual, a tie would likely look out of place. If you care.
