What to Wear to a "Funeral Party"

Hello Everyone,

My situation is that I have a funeral to attend, but it is not a traditional funeral, it is a party. It is meant to celebrate and party in the life of the person that passed. So my question is, do I wear the standard black funeral attire or do I try to go more informal and upbeat?

Also, just to calibrate with the area, I live in Southern California. Many thanks for your help!

I went to something like this a year ago. The deceased specifically asked for a party and didn't want people dressed in black - I imagine that your situation is similar. I wouldn't be informal - I'd just avoid "somber." My event was held in a cold weather location, and I wore an olive tweed suit with a blue shirt and a gold cashmere tie.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too: avoiding somber. It's actually a pretty nice way to do a funeral, much more fun.

Thats what i want my friends to do for me when i go, throw a huge party.

My grandpa requested something similar, we had a Memorial dinner, and it kept my grandma from loosing it, and it also was nice to sit back and toast to his life and think about him, rather then all the crying.

I'd wear a suit but not necessarily a dark one with a dark tie.

This thinking is really gaining popularity. The last few family funerals that I have been to have been a "Celebration of the life!" Like the OP stated, more of a party. But, my family is Irish........Any excuse to get drunk I suppose! Im with kfest; avoid somber.

Yeah, I'll throw in a wedding every now and then, but funerals are insane! The chicks are so horny, it's not even fair.

It's like fishing with dynamite.

Horny?

Yeah, crazy horny.

At a funeral, Grief is nature's most powerful aphrodisiac.

Southern Cal? Anyyhing goes but the Black suit imo.
I was a friend of Mr Martin of "Hill Street Blues" and for his funeral Party in Palm Springs there was a little bit of everything:
His fellow HSB's stars dressed in nice non-black suits, Jan Michale Vincent showed up in a crappy leisure suit wearing thongs(sandals)-he still had most of his teeth then. The others wore everything from A-Z.
Hope this helps
PS--Kiel Martin was a good Man and we all miss him-Hi Kiel!
