I have a company function sailing around Manhattan on a Friday night in May. What would be appropiate wear?

What's the normal attire for your company on a work day?

Something from which vomit can be easily removed. Alcohol and seasickness can be a potent combination.

    Bingo. Nice but cheap/expendable shoes.

I was thinking of either a tan Canali suit or a grey Loro Piana.

A toga made from 4 sheets.

You could end up 3 sheets to the wind . . . .

I remember a booze cruise on the Great South Bay and I ended up wearing a trash bag

I wouldn't worry about the shoes. Why, I've even successfully cleaned vomit from suede and chamois!
