what to wear dancing?

lakewolf, are you a swing dancer? just curious since you're in Switzerland. from what i can tell, Europe seems to have a good dance scene.

Aris Allens kick ass for dancing. with a pair of thin socks, you can really feel the floor. i have a pair in brown, black, and white. highly highly recommended. they ain't no John Lobbs or Edward Greens but with the abuse that they take during dancing, i don't think you'd want them to be. (although i have danced in my Grenson Masterpiece Captoes and they are also very nice).

Most important, leather soles on your shoes.

Add my voice to this. If you wear rubber soles shoes swing dancing, you are going to get very tired very quick. And if you wear your Lobb's, you will be very sad when you get home.

I've gotten into West Coast Swing, and I have found that my dainite-soled suede C&J Chelsea boots work very well in terms of comfort. I've found the dainite soles to be fine on cement and on the tile? (not sure what it's called) floor of the college building that I practice in. However, I've never danced on a ballroom floor and am not sure how that will work with danite soles. I'm happy to buy dancing shoes that are high quality and comfortable if anyone has a recommendation. Anyone have any advice to share?

Essentially, you want a shoe that is reasonably flexible and a sole that is smooth and slides easily. You can buy dance shoes that will be perfect on the dance floor, but you wouldn't want to wear outside. Personally, I stuck a suede sole on a pair of Converse sneakers.

Don't worry about it. As long as the floor's carpeted, you'll be ok. If it's not, then just make sure that you're on top. I doubt that the other swingers club members will mind your soles.
