    Greetings all,

I am travelling to D.C. in a few days for law school related to-dos and am sorely lacking in the casual footwear department...

I'll be doing some walking while in D.C. and of course, I would also like them to be fully functional come spring time here in Texas for weekends, shopping, etc.

I have picked up pairs of Chuck Taylor's All Stars time and time again and I just cannot get over the fact that they look (almost?) like clown shoes to me! Pumas have suited me in the past but I feel that perhaps I have grown out of them?

I'll be looking for a pair of Clarks DBs but still need something a rung down on the formal ladder to compliment. Also, budget is unfortunately a concern for me as well so I won't be able to spend a whole lot [IMG]

    Any thoughts for some advice?

Would like to spend no more than about $80 or so.
Funny about that snow haha but I guess I should have been more clear - "few days" is more like "week and a half" for my trip. I hope that crap melts!

I'd go with a Converse Jack Purcell, or some Vans Authentics. Both quite cheap (~$50) and they look pretty good for casual stuff.

You don't like Chucks cuz of the rubber toe-cap, right? I mean - is that why you think they look clownish? If that's so, then I recommend getting something as simple as Chucks but w/o a toe-cap. Even if it's 10+ days from now, I would avoid wearing canvas sneakers in the Northeast in winter. All that snow is going to melt which means lots of puddles. Canvas doesn't work too good with puddles.

I haven't been down to the city in the past few days.....but we just got 20-30 inches dumped on us with another 10-20 (who knows with weather) tomorrow. Boots are def. a good idea, but if it makes any difference I wear Stan Smiths quite a bit to walk around the city.
