What to look for in a pair of undershorts?

I don't care as much about footwear as I do about the condition of the feet once the footwear has been removed. I'd say that socks in bed are a NO go. But...sweaty feet because you just took them out of your nasty old slippers are probably worse.

Gotcha. But here in Boston, with the windows open (at least another two weeks of denial that I'm not in L.A. anymore), sweaty feet are not a problem this time of year. Now, ice cold feet...

As long as they are well moisturized, and not all dry and cracked, snagging on everything, cold feet are not that big of a deal to me.

In the winter, I wear fleece lined suede moccasins that a female friend gave me as a gift (thanks Ang.)  Very comfortable.  I don't wear them to bed - but they've been keeping my toes warm while I cheered on the Sox the last couple of nights.

Arwen - why is footwear important to women?  I had assumed that as long as we weren't in grandpa slippers or bunny ones, you would be fine with it.

As long as they aren't ankle-high slippers, I'm ok with them. A nice fleece lined moccasin is perfectly acceptable. But anything higher is completely out of the question.

And see, for me, it depends on the season. It gets cold here in Wyoming. And if my sweetie wants to keep his shins warm, I don't think I should deny him that comfort.

Â Generally, I don't take much notice of what clothing/accessory choices others find 'acceptable' (if I did, I'd have to discard half my wardrobe based on the comments I've read on this site this past week alone). Â But I was curious about the underwear issue because I would like to be aware of how women might regard certain styles or colors. Â And I must say, I can't help but notice that the photography and packaging on much of the underwear I've seen sold in recent years doesn't strike me as being targeted towards the traditional straight male. Â Or anyone under 30 for that matter. I was only curious about the undershorts/pajamas issue -- I don't wear them anyway. Â As for proper slippers, I've never seen a pair that I like -- they all look too stuffy. Â I wear a pair of black nylon Nike beach shoes: snug, lightweight and very comfortable...

As a one-brand niche underwear retailer, let me throw in my two cents insofar as the down under below the navel area. I sell boxers 60% to briefs 40%. About half of each style are closed front; the other half with a working fly. White outsells black and navy by about 8 to 1 ... but those who wear the dark colors have absolute disdain for white. Brief sales are higher on the West coast; Boxers are the preferred East coast wear. Interestingly, when the 'all woman' half of the partnership (if there is one) does the ordering, the boxer percentage increases to about 90%. In the boxer category, the majority purchase fitted rather than loose styles. In the brief, short 'hip brief' styles outpace regular lengths. Insofar as fabrications, a distinct majority prefer the flat jersey knit with the ribbed styles a not-too-distant second. Fishnets and piques sell consistently, but constitute a very small percentage of the total. For more than a quarter century, I have sold 98% pure cotton; the remainder being silk or wool. However, since our introduction of the new Pureness MicroModal line last May, its sales have risen dramatically even though very few styles are as yet available. Well, that's it for my brief summary. Then there's the shirts: tank? short sleeve? long sleeve? crew? v-neck? Perhaps another day. Insofar as getting the distaff point-of-view ... no offense guys, but the opinions of only 49% of the population tells only half the story. Princess and Arwen - great to hear from you. I have to ask...are there non-quality waist bands? Â I mean...I've heard others comment on it...and I've got to say that I am not really a fan of them. Â In my own underwear, at least. Â I have no opinion on them when it comes to men's briefs...but I'm just wondering what the difference is to you guys...

Well, I have had underwear in the past whose waistbands started to unravel into an ungodly mess after a time, but in fairness that may partially be due to my tendency to throw everything into the dryer on high heat.

I can't imagine a pique making a comfortable brief, but I'd be curious to try one...

I've asked them to stop, but she has slyly registered me with registration details I don't know. It's blackmail. Haha, I'd never been to thier website before I posted this. It's not work safe.

Well shame on you. You should never throw your underwear into the dryer. Place it in, Mr. Jay. Place it with love. I think you'll find the rebellious waist bands will appreciate it...and that they'll turn their behavior around.

I found some Coolmax boxer briefs from Nautica Competition on clearance at TJ Maxx a while ago, and they are the best ever. The legholes don't stretch out or cut into my thighs, the waistbands are holding up well, the fabric barely pills, and they breathe very well, much better than cotton. I don't know how I'd rate the styling, as they are just utilitarian and plain, but they are great anyway.
