Won a $600 Men's Warehouse gift card in a raffle a couple months ago, and have recently realized I have no idea what to buy with it.

Since the suits at the Men's Scarehouse are so poorly constructed they're scary, should I simply try and load up on neckties. I don't think they can ruin a necktie. Or should I buy a suit, or maybe a blazer?

What would you do?

^+1 Hopefully you could get around 500 for it and then buy something genuinely nice.

Just beware that eBay sets a maximum of $500 for gift card sales (at least they used to), & if they see you list an auction with a higher amount, they will cancel it.

You are indeed correct:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/gift.html

* The value of the gift card may not exceed $500.
Bloody Nazis. Next they'll attempt to ban money orders and cheques as payment methods. Oh wait.

also try craigslist, you could save $50 or more on fees that way. say you will meet them at MW to verify the value.

Put it on craigslist? Or on a business school's bulletin board?

They have all kinds of things like sweaters. Mens Warehouse is not my favorite store, but I go there whenever I get a coupon and come out with a tie, sweater, socks or something.

I know there is an anti-Men's Wearhouse mob mentality on the clothing forums. When stuff is free, why not go for it. I have never bought a suit at Men's Wearhouse, but I would not totally spurn the store. However, if you feel that your sartorial ego cannot handle the thought of being in such a low-brow place, maybe you should sell it on EBay.

It's not that my ego cannot handle shopping there, I want to use the coupon. I noticed on the website they had some lower end Joseph Abboud suits, I might try and pick up one of those.

Because it's not even worth free? Style Forum is a celebration of quality -- Men's Wearhouse makes a living selling its exact opposite.

There are a lot of other things you can get there. Unless you are really into the high end ties, some of their ties aren't too bad (although they have a lot of them that look kind of cheap, too, I'll admit.) Go in with an open mind. You may like the suits.

If you don't find anything you want, you can always sell it on EBay later, I suppose.
