What to do with a 3 button suit??

I purchased a 3 button suit for my honeymoon cruise 5 years ago and havent touched the ill fitted nave pinstriped 3 button suit. So a few weeks ago i told myself why not tailor it and make it look right. Well the whole time I've had this suit i didnt realize it had three buttons. Being 5'7 a three button suit is not preferred for my body type (athletic yet short).
My question is..how hard is it to customize it into a 2 button or what specifically can i ask the tailor to do to make the 3 button suit fit better and look appealing?

Is this suit worth the expense of altering? If so it may be possible to take in the gorge, which would force the lapel to roll lower. The suit needs to be at least half-canvassed for this to turn out well. You should not be buttoning the top button.

Its a Jos bank. Don't know if that is quality or not ..its super 100s. I'm kinda new at the suit thang.

A 3 button will be fine for your (or any really) build. The 'expert' advice goes back and forth as to whether it lengthens a short guy's line or not.

If it fits well, the buttoning won't matter. Just get it tailored, wear it, and other clothes, as you like and don't worry about what you cannot change.

And Jos A Bank varies. They have several lines of differing quality.

Yes, and they all suck to varying degrees.

^Their top end stuff is half canvassed (actually, there's even a full canvas line, but it's incredibly rare). Not all that bad, and certainly their higher end stuff is a fair bit better then what your average office worker is wearing.

It's not the polyester crap you might find at men's wearhouse.

It's not worth putting money into it. Super 100s is just the grade of the wool, not the quality. But as far as Super numbers go I like 100 best. Higher numbers wrinkle more and are more delicate. Try wearing it with just the middle button closed. If it fits well it will look good.

It comes down to how often you will be wearing the suit, and on what occasions.

The ones that I've had a chance to examine (including the half-canvassed ones) haven't looked particularly impressive.

They are passable at best -- but once again, that's a personal judgment and call. YMMV and all that.

Why not just buy a new suit at this point? Sounds like it's been 5 years since your last suit purchase

Tailoring the 3-button might not be worth the time and money. Jos A. Bank is decent, there is worse out there (and certainly better). But why not buy something new?
