What tie for a wedding?

Hello,

I will attend a wedding and plan to wear a black suit and white shirt - it's not a black tie/white tie event.

Question: What tie should I wear? At the office I prefer single colour ties. Could I wear one of them for this occasion?

Greetings

My first resonse is wear what you would wear to the office, or out to dinner. How formal is the wedding (what is the groom and wedding party wearing, what time of day, etc.)? This will go a long way to determining if you can go more or less conservative. If it is less formal and/or earlier in the day you may want to rethink the black suit.

A solid tie would be fine, preferably in a lighter color. Silver or gray would be best for a wedding.

Wedding will be at 3 p.m. Not as formal as a black tie event but not as informal as not to wear a black suit.

I think a silver tie just wouldn't suit me well. I have a rather pale skin. I think I will go for a solid red tie. Would that be ok?

I think red woudl be fine. In my book the key to these things is if you are comfortable, you will prortray that to everyone else you come into contact with.

Manton, the forum authority on such things, would not approve of a red tie.

Non-black tie black suits are not, by and large, considered "formal" at all. Less so, in any case than a conservative suit in solid navy (the usual wedding attire).
