What the hell is up with this spare belt loop?

What is this thing? I ordered this Southwick suit from STP and this is on the back of the pants. The suit is going back for other reasons, and I know that I could have it taken off, but what the hell is this and what's the point?

Something that your coworkers are going to have a whole lot of fun with. It is also bound to piss you off.

Makes it easy to hang the pants when you're showering at the gym!

Not sure, but a steady hand and a razor blade takes care of these sort of things in no time.

^ Hoping for a good explanation from them. I thought perhaps I missed something.

I only had my browser window at about half of the screen, and I admit I looked for probably 30 seconds trying to figure out what was wrong with the beltloops before realizing that I needed to scroll down a bit.

As adamparker said, the only thing it resembles is one of those little loops they used to put on the back of polo shirts, which I presume was for hanging them up.

But on a suit? It seems like putting a loop on the inside of the waistband on fabric that is a bit more durable would make more sense. Or maybe just using one of the actual belt loops?

Was there a **** in the back of the jacket near the collar? If so, then it'd be perfect for a sword...

I'm not at all suggesting that is what it was intended to be used for, just that it's the only thing I can even think of.

Perhaps Southwick took heed of the exceptionally popular "Do any of you carry a gun?" thread and added the belt loop to accomodate the gun-toting among us.

I think some idiot had a spare belt loop sewn on there. God knows why... There is no way those pants left the factory that way.
