What Suits Go Well With a Gray Shirt?

Hi all. I have a more than a few great gray shirts. Some solids, some plaid, striped, etc. My problem is, I rarely think they look quite right with any of my suits outside of a black one. I rarely wear black suits outside of weddings and funerals however. Any tips are appreciated.

In my expert opinion, I tend to agree that grey shirts go well with black (and navy blue) suits...and depending on the shade, grey suits. I saw someone wear a dark green suit with a grey dress shirt, and the two went well together, but all of the combinations mentioned so far are combinations comprised of dark solid suits and solid grey shirts - patterns add another dimension of complexity although I think a lot of greys would go with solid dark colored suits.

Olive, with a black tie would work well. But it's a really awkward color, especially if fairly dark. Save 'em for more casual wear with sweaters or sportcoats.

Black, dark blue, and (on some people) dark gray. Olive, maybe. However, a suit that is double-breasted or peak-lapel likely will be a formality mismatch.

It is odd to buy the shirt first and then fret about the suit, have you planned your wardrobe at all?
