I just came across a gold (with a bit of black) tie in my closet. It's not the easiest tie to match with shirt and suit combinations. It looks OK with a blue shirt and gray suit, but not great.

    Any other suggestions? Photos appreciated.

    Thanks!

It depends. I wear and olive or gold suit with a gold tie, maybe with a white or pale yellow shirt. Skin tone, hair and eye colour also play a part

(This presumes the tie is almost solid gold and looks so from more than a few feet away.)
With a white or light blue shirt. Gold tie is somewhat formal and therefore doesn't go well with other colors or patterns. Also, it can look bad with a yellow shirt or clash with colored shirts. The suit/jacket color is safest in dull, dark blue or medium or dark gray.
