I love this forum because I know someone will eventually be able to help! Thanks in advance. I see these once in a 'blue moon' on the eBays. Unfortunately, never in my size. I do have a rather worn pair in a burnt orange color and slightly more pointed toe but those are too big also - and I've really just want a black pair. Part of my problem is not knowing what to call them, so I can't search for them properly. I'd like to learn as much as possible about them, I guess. Anyway, here they are:

If anyone is interested in bidding on them: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=003

Blucher, actually, because the sides overlap the vamp. With bal boots, it's the other way around. I'd call these perf captoe blucher boots, but there may be some more precise name for them. Captoe blucher boots saw action in World War II, so they might come up under a WWII boot search. C&J's Coniston lacks the perfing, but is close to what you're looking for. Other makers have similar models, too, if you're not wedded to eBay. They're usually listed as country shoes by English makers. EDIT: Here's a bal boot:

Oh okay, cool, good to know. I still don't know what all the parts of the shoe are called, it is frustrating.

CDC, those boots are Stacy Adams Madisons. And either they aren't particularly vintage, or they have changed nothing about them since the '70s.

Alexander

Saw Madisons in shoe store last week...three colors available for $105 a pair.

I don't know about quality, but the design and construction (including the last) is 100 percent unchanged since -- get this -- the 1880s. I got this directly from the Stacy Adams rep. This is why they were chosen as the standard men's footwear for the film Titanic. (Wonder if the extras got to keep theirs....

EDIT: I see on one of the links above they say 1875. Holy crap....

I have a pair in kidskin. They ARE very lightweight (which I like about them) but they are not particularly shiny. Mine are (were) brown though so I don't know about other colours...
For around $80 they are pretty reasonable.

I just get happier and happier to own these. As others have said, they aren't the fanciest shoes in the world, but my goodness are they *cool*!

I'm considering getting a pair of the kidskin. It seems to me that they're a little nicer - but it also seems kind of silly to rebuy a pair of shoes I basically already have. Maybe it would be better to put that money toward something nicer, I don't know...
