What should I wear to an event in Las Vegas?

I've never been there so I'm expecting it to be hot. I will be attending the Miss USA Pageant (my girlfriend is going to be in the pageant) so I think I need to dress pretty formal

Should I wear a linen suit? I'll have to buy one if that's the case. If not I have plenty of wool ones? But I've heard black is too "dressy"?

Any advice would be great

One other tip - you think my tie should match her evening gown? We will be taking pictures after the pageant

FFS do not match her gown. You'll look like you're going to prom. Las Vegas is quite informal. You can get away with a navy linen suit. Just be careful that photographs bring out wrinkles that are bound to form on your suit.

What about a gray linen suit? Guess I'll return the tie I just bought, haha.

No opinion on linen V wool, but whatever you decide on be sure to use a pocket sock instead of a silk or linen square. This accessory provides instant "enhancement" when stuffed into the crotch area of your trousers & increases the likelihood of 3-way action with GF and other contestant(s) that Vegas is legendary for.
