What should I wear as a wedding guest?

I have two weddings coming up over the summer (May and July) and I'm not sure what to wear, I'm a cousin of one bride and a nephew of the other.

My old suit no longer fits me and so I'm looking at buying a new one (probably just one as I don't wear suits for much other than weddings, interviews and race day).

I'm 5'6, broad UK38 but with short arms and 28-30 waist.

I'm thinking of just buying a navy suit, but that can be a bit on the tame side.
I will probably need a suit for interviews.

Also what shoes should I buy?

While I would love to buy a Brioni suit I know I can't afford a new one and I can't afford to buy one online not knowing how it would fit, so I'm going into stores to try on a couple of suits to see how they fit.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Just get the navy, doesn’t matter if it’s tame as the wedding isn’t about you. If you don’t have a good pair of shoes yet then get a good pair of black, burgundy or dark brown; the exact colour and style may be influenced on what you exactly plan on using them for for, predominantly.

Agree with navy suit (medium to dark grey would work too). You want "tame" if it is going to be your only one that way it can fit just about any situation. Get more adventurous with your 4th or 5th suit. If you don't dress up all that much I would say go with black cap toe oxford shoes.

Dark navy suit, black captoe oxford, white barrel cuff shirt, all are extremely versatile. For a tie, colors on darker side are safe. A dark navy tie for instance or dark red (solid colors) will be versatile. Nothing flashy. You can improvise on the pocket square

Navy suit.
White shirt.
Black or brown shoes.
Tie? You can get a little "festive" if you want.

Done deal.
