What should I do to these shoes as far as polishing and antiquing?

I don't really know how to do antiquing very well and don't want to F them up. If I do antique them, I believe that using dye is superior to using polish? I intend on wearing these casually (e.g. with jeans and such). And whether or not I antique them, what polish should I use for this light colored leather?

Before you use a cream and probably change the shoes' colour irrevocably I'd try to polish the toe box with a really dark wax based polish. So you can see how an antiquing would look like and would have the possibility to polish it off if you don't like it.
I think it would look great, btw.

I guess testing it out first is probably the safest option. But it would be hassle if I decide to make it permanent with shoe dye, because that would mean I would have to strip the wax. Anybody know if the darker wax/dye go in the brogueing, or should that part be kept light?
