These are black 501 STF's.

They have gold stitching and some white along with the black in the denim.

I love the way they look with certain colors of fitted button-up shirts, etc.... but what (non-sneaker) shoes would you guys wear with these?

The choices I have now are basically black leather (not shiny), dark brown leather (not shiny), light beige/sand suede, and medium grey suede.... but I'm also willing to shop. The browns actually don't look bad to my eye but I know some swear that's a bad combo.

Thoughts?

I'd change it up based on the color(s) of the shirt you're wearing. I'm one of the people who doesn't like brown with black, but just as many people think that's an archaic rule that's made to be broken.

What ^^ said. Depends on the rest of your ensemble, but any of those shoes might be able to go with it. When in doubt, go to your black leathers.

I try my best to avoid wearing black or any dark colored pants with black shoes, almost any other color shoe should suffice ie. gray, brown, tan, white etc etc.

OK--- So it seems that's it's more up to taste than sweating any kind of golden rule about brown shoes with the black pants. That's the main thing I was checking.

I often like a contrast to the pants (so something other than black shoes), so I'll have to line up the browns and tans and such and see what looks good.

I've been wearing dark brown suede and beeswax desert boots daily with my black jeans. Looks fine. I think the dark grey desert boots I saw in another thread would look sick with black jeans(but my jeans have grey stitching not yellow). White sneaks look fine with black jeans and a t shirt as well as long as you have an accessory or two, or use light layering up top to keep from looking boring.

I wear brown boots with black jeans all the time. Looks just fine. I never heard of the can't do black and brown rule and if I did I would ignore it anyway. I decide how I dress, not anyone else and that's how it should be.

Do a search for black jeans on here and you'll find many negative comments in a few threads about the black/brown combo.

With this particular pair, I think some of the browns look very good. I have another pair of pure black jeans (even the stiching), and in that case I don't think they go quite as well.

The pair of black jeans I wear are all black and dark brown goes with them very well as long as the rest of the ensemble is matched up as well. Black and brown are earth tone colors and work well when matched with other colors in this color family. For instance, dark brown boots and belt, all black jeans, yellow and black plaid button down shirt, brown leather A2 and a dark brown hat (fedora or bowler) works well for a rustic casual look. The colors are complimentary and contrasting at the same time. The secret is playing with the colors and textures.

It will look good in black shiny leather shoes since the pants is likely semi straight. Anyway consider also your age and style of your hair to make you comfortable to carry your fashion he..

I am extremely particular with the the dont' do brown /w black rule

I won't even wear a black jacket if I am wearing brown underneath...

Socks can't be brown if the shoes are black, etc

I wouldn't even wear a watchband that was black if I was wearing brown shoes

So with the black shoes you have, personally they could work with blue jeans, grey jeans, variety of colors on top, just not brown, and preferably not navy (Although I love navy+black)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
