What shoes with shorts?

I'm going to our local country club for a Father's Day barbeque. This is casual but in reality the shorts worn are fairly dressy.

My family won't let me wear gym shoes and white socks. I have tried loafers with no socks and torn up my feet. Flip flops aren't aceptable. What do I wear?

PS, I told my wife that I was going to wear black knee socks and black shoes.

She says I am going alone then.

linen slacks. I find them cooler than shorts and it gets me out of the whole shoe/socks with shorts quandry.
