AE Black Park Ave
Johnston and Murphy Melton in Bordeaux Brushed Veal (http://www.zappos.com/johnston-murphy-melton-bourdeaux-brushed-veal)
AE McAlisters (walnut)

what should i add next? eyeing strands in oxblood..the park ave amd j&m mainly just wear for more dressy occasions. mcalisters i just got will be wearing for both dressy and casual. looking for another option that can be versatile. and i love the darker/red toned browns like oxblood or bobs chili colors of AE. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Tough to always tell on internet, but your J&Ms are already a dark red. You're missing a medium to dark Brown - the most versatile color. I love the oxblood and walnut colors but I would suggest something int a mid to dark brown. Be carful about the reddish-brown colors - they are not as versatile, IMO.

I have 2 strands - walnut and oxblood and they're my favorite shoe. Given what you have already, I think the burnished brown might be a more versatile choice - or bourbon even. I have bourbon daltons and that is a very versatile color. But the burnished brown color is probably the most versatile and dresses up/down extremely well. That would be my recommendation.

All of these shoes are oxfords (ie close laced) intended for formal attire (suits etc). Though mcallisters with the wingtip and broguing, you can wear those with casual outfits. If I were you, I'd get a derby or a loafer/slip-on.

There are plenty of threads with regards to this type of subject abundant on the forum. Take a look around and consider searching item like the 5 essential shoes.

Also while considering which types of shoes to buy I would also take another look at which brands you might want to consider buying. When buying I always like to consider all of my options.

I would highly recommend taking a look at this thread.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)
