1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I'm sick of sandles, I want to wear something with a little more refinement. Any ideas? Pics?

You are obviously implying that it isn't classy whatsoever. As compared to sandles yes, as to anything more formal, no. I take it as a very hot weather, middle of day attire. Yes, as compared to the US passion for open toe sandles I do feel this is a step up.

Agree. The ones with the rubber nubs, not the other ones.

What if one does not like loafers (especially mocs) and does not wear Converse?

In lieu of sandals, in order of increasing formality:

    - LL Bean camp mocs
    - Alden driving shoes
    - Tod's loafers
    - John Lobb "Campus" loafers

The Aldens and Lobbs are most comfortable without socks. You might think the Lobbs would be too formal for shorts, but the Campus is pretty casual and I think they go great with a pair of (longish, and relatively formal) Bermuda shorts paired with a nice belt and shirt.

This morning I saw the end-all, be-all: a 20-something guy in a very nice tan suit walking in downtown DC wearing a pair of ordinary black flip-flops.
