what shirt & tie for a wedding?

Hi all

I've got a wedding to go to on Saturday and am planning on wearing a charcoal grey two button suit but unsure of what shirt & tie combo to go for.
I recently purchased a nice silk navy with white polka dot handkerchief that I would like to make use of but not sure how I should fit this in with my tie etc. A white shirt always seems like the smartest option for a wedding so going on this basis I need to select an appropriately coloured/patterned tie. I was thinking possibly a plainish dark purple/red but not sure if that'll fit - I'm conscious of not having too much of a pattern so as not to clash (or match) the hanky. Any ideas?
P.S. I'm not against ditching the white shirt idea but I want to look like I'm not just dressing for work ( I tend to stick to only blue shirts on a day to day basis) - ideally I'd like to wear something that stands out and maybe upstage the groom!!

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
