What shirt and tie colors for light/silver gray pants?

I know this should be simple, but I'm having problems. What color shirts and ties would you wear with silver gray pants? There is no jacket to speak of aside from a white lab coat.

Black or dark purple shirt.. with some gray/black, perhaps (I have one from Purple Label), but I'd have to see the pants to make a call on the second.

Depends on the shirt for the tie.

I have a pair of pearl/silver grey pants and wear shirts that are white or have a white background (e.g., a lavender grid pattern on white). Pink would also work. Blues will be tricky but not impossible. I would avoid dark shirts.

The tone is the tricky part -if any of the above colors are the same value of light /dark as the pants -you'll have no contrast even though you may be wearing two different colors. So my 2 cents is to pay attention to contrast- go distinctly lighter or darker than the pants.

Light Blue Shirt, Brown Tie. If the brown Tie has Blue or silver in it, all the better:

I agree with light blue shirt + brown tie. I also like light pink shirt + brown tie. Both with brown shoes of course

Sounds like a good opportunity for a light sweater in a darker color, if you're not big on wearing a darker shirt.
