Just saw "The Attack"--a well-done, thought-provoking movie about the Israel-Palestine question. Really makes you wish they both could somehow iron out their differences equitably.

Although it was made by a Lebanese film-maker, I believe it has been banned in a number of Arab countries for portraying the Israelis too sympathetically.

I watched Oldboy and Easy Rider this weekend. I'd been meaning to watch Oldboy for years, and I'm glad I got around to it before the American version comes out. It was gritty and icky, but, man, was it good. I'll be curious to see if the U.S. edition is as good as the Korean version, though I'm already skeptical given the one preview I've seen.

Easy Rider was very enjoyable. I don't think it has quite the same gravity over 40 years later as it did when it was released, but I can see how it would have been tremendous in context.

Gone in Sixty Seconds (1974 version)
Kansas City Confidential
Only Angels Have Wings

High Sierra too, but it hasn't aged well at all. One of my least favorite films ever.

watched that fairly recently as well for the first time. i find that to be the case for a lot of movies that were resounding in their era. some fell kind of flat for me, but i really enjoyed easy rider, and as you said, could see how it was ground breaking when it was released.

GI Joe: Retaliation

  1. Whenever you see "Presented by Hasbro" you know you're in store for a quality film.
  2. Seeing Dwayne Johnson react to his buddy's death = Oscar worthy.
  3. When Storm Shadow's identity was revealed, it reminded me of when we learn that the White Power Ranger is

Olympus has Fallen

  • Defo top 10, maybe top five for the year.
  • Whenever you burst out laughing uncontrollably at a kid/husband seeing their mom/wife die... classic film.
  • How did they only get one star and that star happened to be Morgan Freeman?

Because Morgan Freeman is one of those actors that doesn't turn down a job. He knew it was ****, but he didn't care. Do you think less of him now? No. His reputation is secure, so he can do crap movies just for the paycheck.

Kinda like Laurence Olivier doing Clash Of The Titans...

e.g. movie so bad it's good, or movies you know it's **** but still love anyway... or movies people hated but you liked without any sense of irony...

Riddick and Chronicles of Riddick. Loved 'em both. Great sci-fi, and Vin Diesel in perfect in his role.

Guys, don't watch the new Deniro-Travolta flick called Killing Season. It's pure garbage.

The reviews I read said much the same.

I just got back from seeing "A Hijacking" about a Danish cargo ship seized by Somali pirates. Although it got some critical acclaim, I suggest passing on it--rather tedious, and the movie never got me to care much about any of the principal characters.

You mean Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, right? Riddick hasn't come out yet.

Pitch Black is kinda awesome, Chronicles of Riddick, not so much.
