Seen:
The Godfather
Star Wars
Jaws
Raiders of the Lost Ark(I believe)

Never finished:
Chinatown
Casablanca

Not a sci-fan/MASH, so never caught:
Blade Runner
MASH

Never watched:
Lawrence of Arabia
Seven Samurai

Need to get to:
North by Northwest
Apocalypse Now
Raging Bull(and I am a HUGE boxing fan)

Don't know:
Metropolis

If you don’t like Sci-Fi skip Blade Runner and Metropolis

MASH the film is so different than the show that came later, I’d still recommend it. Otherwise add Nashville to your list (same director)

North by Northwest and Vertigo should be essential movies.
The Godfather 2 if you haven't seen it is essential.
12 Angry Men is essential.
I'd also add Rashomon, Rear Window, Double Indemnity, and Dr Strangelove to classic essentials.

For my tastes, for modern movies, I'd say No Country for Old Men, Hell or High Water, Drive, City of God, and Oldboy (2003) are essentials but crime is my genre.

I am actually putting together a list of some of my favorites. Will post.

-Godfather 2 was not as good as 1 in my opinion. But 1 is SO good.
-12 Angry Men...definitely(on my list.)
-Double Indemnity....in my top 5 of all time.
-No Country for Old Men...overrated. Watched it once. Never had to need to revisit.
-City of God...ok...great soundtrack. Caught it once.

To Have and Have Not
Heaven Can Wait
Divorce Italian Style
The Shop Around the Corner
To be or not to be
Stairway to Heaven aka A Matter of Life and Death
To catch a thief

Most were big films with big actors but faded into obscurity since then. In my opinion they are on par with the essential classics from that era. Laura can be viewed for Gene Tierney alone

I'd like to add "Staying Alive"...
I've probably seen it 30-ish times.
Soooooo underrated.

Wow! One of my favorite Xmas time movies. Really like that. Funny as You've Got Mail is also on my list. Not a 5* flick, just a remake that I really like as much as the original.

Just a few that I can watch over and over. Not home right now or I would look on my shelf at some of the DVD's I own.

Some are 4-5 star. Some are just flicks that I can watch anytime. All are solid IMO!

Directed by Ernst Lubitsch whom I really like. Some of his flicks like Ninotchka(another great watch) were written by Billy Wilder who is maybe my all time favorite director/writer. You can watching these old Lubitsch movies that he was huge influence on Wilder.

Had to look up the name. Under the Skin

Rarely do sci-fi so I never caught that.

May give it a look for the bewbs!

It's the role she was born to play. A sexy alien with completely flat affect.

I worked with a guy named Matuszek for a while, and I thought of The Shop Around the Corner every time we spoke. He'd never heard of .

Haven't seen the bolded ones, but added some to fill up my watch list. Gotta watch that Shawshank eventually. 🙂

Unfortunately, I've already seen all but three or four of his movies, and all of his best.
