Friday nights are family movie nights, when we watch something appropriate for parents and our 8 yo

This week was:

Really excellent movie.

And despite my love for (nearly) the entire Fast & Furious catalog, The Iron Giant is probably Vin Diesel's best performance.

He was great in GotG as Groot.
WE are Groot.

honestly he brought a lot more emotion to that role than he should have.

What can I say about Casablanca on the big screen? I wish the volume was a little louder but thats not the films fault. Such a love story. Iconic lines that weren't contrived. Beautiful images in every scene. Incredibly moving. Maybe a perfect movie.

And the pictures of the Fox don't do it justice. It's a true palace and no matter how many times I go it's an absolute treat. Is it a bit of an orientalist fantasy? Sure but it was supposed to be for the Shriners so whatever. I think what I appreciate so much about it is we almost lost it to fire but there was thankfully a super who was living there and detected in time. And then a second time it was almost torn down for redevelopment.

There's truly nothing like it anywhere else. I've been to some great movie palaces but the Fox is just so evocative that it blows them away.

True, and as Ed points out, he brought an unexpected depth to the role, but overall, I though he showed greater range and nuance in IG.

lol, not really, though that is good for him, glad to see him get that paychek. I've lost my enthusiasm for the Marvel stuff - I only begrudgingly watched the newest spiderman with family on streaming - and have no interest in seeing them anymore. I have zero interest in Dr Strange or the new Thor movie.

Same here. End Game was the Marvel high point for me and anything after has been ehh... It's just too much now. Most of the time I only catch the movies when I travel and watch them on United.

Speaking of watching movies when I traveled. I managed to catch these movies traveling to Marseille and back.

The Other Boleyn Girl- decent movie that kept me engaged. The whole incest thing by Anne was a giant wtf.
Palm Springs- stupid movie that had some funny parts to it. Kind of a dumb ending but wasn't really expecting much from this movie.
Quantum of Solace- actually held up better than I remembered first watching it.
Casino Royale- obviously one of the best DC Bond movies. Nothing much else to say.
NTTD- saw it in the theaters when it came out and thought it was good. Rewatched on the plane and thought it sucked. Too many parts felt like it just dragged on and on.

I just bought a new TV and have Amazon Prime, so I watched for free two recent Liam Neeson vehicles: Honest Thief and The Marksman. Both did poorly in the theaters. I liked both much more than the average viewer. I think I would enjoy any movie that involves Neeson kicking ass.

Good call (assuming you mean the new one - the first one, while not great, at least managed to work as a relatively contained stand alone film - this one doesn't at all. Apart from the few Raimi flourishes that somehow slipped through, it's just a waste of time. Silver lining is that it'll effectively wean you off Marvel flicks, if you weren't already).
