What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Four Bloomington, Indiana best friends(Dave, Mike, Cyril and Moocher) graduate from high school and really have no plans. They don't intend to leave the small town and just really want to live life and chill.

On the other side are the well off graduates who plan for college and ridicule the four friends....who never back down.

Dave is a champion cyclist and dreams of all things Italian...and competing with/against the Italian national team. His 3 friends rally him to race with them in the Indiana University Little 500 bike race to show those stuck up locals. Reluctantly, he does.

He builds their bike from scratch and they enter as underdogs against the "stacked" college bound teams. What happens during the race is major part of the movie....but the tale that gets us there is as good as it gets(< great name for a movie!)

Love, family drama, small town rivalries, coming of age...this flick has all of that and then some.

If you haven't seen this gem, do take a look! I never get tired of it.

4.75/5.

Such a good movie. I remember watching as a kid in the 80's when it was on cable dreaming of my Pro cycling future. I hung out at my LBS until they gave me a job.

My wife's nephew graduated from IU 10-ish years ago. He took part in the Little 500 every year. He's still an active cyclist. Though he just had a baby. Now he knows the pain of parenthood coupled with one's hobbies.

I was just thinking about this the other day... if I could be anyone at any time period in history... I would be Donald Sutherland in the 70s.
I'm going with Richard Gere in the American Gigolo/Breathless period...

In that case, I'm going with Peppard circa Breakfast at Tiffany's so I could hang out with Audrey.

streaming on HBO. Really bad. I have no idea what they were going for on this one. Could have been so much more had it just aimed to be a small-stakes genre exercise but totally fumbled every interesting idea it had.

I totally understand that good choice! I'd go 8 years earlier and be Clark Gable in Mogambo. I wouldn't mind having to choose between Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner.

Ps. 50s and 60s women fashion was just amazing.

I saw this one years ago and then rewatched it to see if it held up. It does. Richard Dreyfuss is a broke cabbie on the verge of divorce from Terri Garr. He has a penchant for betting on horse racing, but he sucks at it. Until he gets a tip through his fellow loser cabbie best friend, Buster Poindexter. What follows for him is a really, really good day.

Solid cast, including Robbie Coltrane, Michelle Phillips, a very young Cynthia Nixon, and Jennifer Tilly at perhaps her peak hotness.
