What Movies Are You Watching Lately

just watched heat again on tv.

what a ******* great movie. never gets old.

Heat is excellent. One of my favorites.

One of my favorite things about it is the sound mixing during the gunfights. Anyone here who has ever shot a gun knows that they are *loud*, and most movies really fail to capture this. Michael Mann is apparently an avid shooter, and so most of his films, Heat in particular, have excellent sound mixing during the gunfights. The bank heist scene in that movie, if you crank it up with surround sound, rattles the windows and really makes you feel like you are in the middle of it, more than just about any other gunfight I've ever seen on film.

A tv miniseries rather than a movie, but I watched Going Postal this weekend and liked it a lot. Has a strong Terry Gilliam vibe to it.

Finished Anna Karenina. A little weird overall. Haven't read the book yet. Maybe it makes more sense when having read the book prior to watching the movie. Also didn't like Vronsky's actor.

Watched the American version of "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" over the weekend. It was good, but I did not find it as good as the Swedish version. I thought Mara's version of Lisbeth was less cold and distant than Rapace's. To compare without having to rewatch the same story, the wife and I did the extended versions of played with fire and hornet's nest. This cemented my thoughts about Mara vs. Rapace.

Saw "Happy People" Saturday night. This Werner Herzog documentary deals with Russian fur trappers in Siberia. I found it fascinating and can certainly recommend it.

Absolutely. The gun fight is one of the best gun fights I've ever seen in any movie, to date.

By far the most chilling scene for me in the entire movie, though, was when pacino walks in on trejo's lifeless body, beaten to a pulp on the floor. Dude just looked like death and I was so creeped out by his acting. Jeepers!

Great scene. I've heard that that scene was actually shot one actor at a time--they were never in the same room together. The first movie they were in the same scenes together was Righteous Kill.
