Saw "Side Effects" last night. I'd give it a C+. Reasonably well acted--certainly Rooney Mara is one of the most talented of the younger actresses around--but the plot was very confusing and convoluted, as well as being extremely far-fetched and implausible.

May I respectfully recommend these 2 books:
Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account Miklos Nyiszli
Five Chimneys: The Story of Auschwitz: Olga Lengyel

IMO, nope. I'm surprised at all the awards, incl the Oscar tonight, if the odds are to be believed.

I thought his The Town much, much better.

Cheesy story, overblown by script, laughable CGI. I was expecting an Oscar movie, got a pretty good TV flick, much like the original 'The Canadian Caper'.

    Recently.

    Von Ryan's Express. 8/10

Class, let down slightly by really shit score. Sinatra probably had the guy's knees broken. (Wife's view -- not interested)

    Couples Retreat. 6/10

Some charm, but by the numbers comedy. Kristin Davis is the hot one. That gives you the hotness meter! (Wife's view -- chuckled, somewhat)

    Up in the Air. 8/10

Really liked this film. A little unpredictable, well written and good acting. (Wife's view -- didi not like)

An Officer and a Gentleman. 8/10

Had not seen for a long time. Holds up well. Even enjoyed Richard Gere. (Wife's view -- are you kidding!)

Some oldies I've gotten a chance to see:

    Citizen Kane
    The Maltese Falcon
    The Big Sleep
    Notorious
    Strangers on a Train

I thought Notorious and Strangers were so-so. Each had their exciting scenes, but I didn't particularly find them overall great. Strangers was a tad better than Notorious though.

Did not see Kane until last year even though No. 1 on just about every list.

Mind blowing in so many ways.

Watched The Bourne Legacy. Not bad.

Also, Beasts of the Southern Wild. I enjoyed it. Great acting of the girl.

Unfortunately, I still haven't seen a lot of movies nominated for the academy awards, so I don't really have favorites. Still, I think Christoph Waltz deserves his.
