Requiem for a Dream. Terrible film and a huge misfire by Aronofsky compared to Pi, The Wrestler and Black Swan.
I just couldn't get on board with the hugely unsympathetic characters, and scratchy jumpy cinematography and alarmist story.

u wot m8?

R4aD is been a favorite movie of mine since it came out...Ive actually wrote a few papers on both the movie and aronofsky back in high school.

really enjoyed dredd, bourne legacy was a big meh, lawless was horrible, skyfall decent

on the documentary front, I thought the invisible war was good, and imposter was excellent

That's cool OC, what do you like about the film so much?

LOTS of spoilers below!!!

I can see how it could have been a great film, but it's let down by too many things for me. Sara Goldfarb presents almost entirely as a moron from the start and very irritating. I found it impossible to have sympathy for her character. By the end I thought her chronic psychosis was largely an improvement.

There was only the briefest glimpse of who she was when she opened up about her loneliness to her son, had that been pursued she could have been a much greater character. In the far superior The Wrestler, look at Randy's character and how you see his flaws and what's behind them develop - he's a hugely captivating and upsetting character you really invest in.

As for Harry, I largely saw him as a moron too, and in the scheme of things what happens to him in the hospital is not very affecting - sure he's lost an arm - but he will also get the biggest kick up the ass to sober up and stay sober and change his life. I saw it as a violent wake up call for him. As for Tyrone - his fate in the prison is nothing - it's enforced rehab that he needs - again another chance to leave there and really change his life.

I also found Marion's story not terribly affecting either - sure sex shows and minor prostitution aren't great, but this whole horror of the business men leering in the pit and the acts she did, were no different to everyday pornography actresses do everyday. It's not like she was a Russian or Thai girl sold into an entire life of sex crime and beaten daily. She could go to rehab and very quickly get out of that, knowing yeah she's done a few seedy things, but now has everything going for her.

I realise I come across as entirely evil and harsh in these comments, but as said I just couldn't sympathise with this film at all. In contrast The Wrestler was one of the most moving films I've seen in a long time.

I also found the cinematography of Requiem very gimmicky.

I really like the pacing and the cam shots when using the sanora cam (spelling?) I forget what its called I just remember researching it back when I wrote the paper back in 2006.

did you not see the part where a guy was punched in the throat with brass knuckles? :D

******* stupid. the plot made no sense, it felt 45 minutes too long, and nobody died. ridiculous.
