Just watched Martha Marcy May Marlene about a woman who escapes from a cult and goes to live with her sister. Surprisingly good performance from Elizabeth Olsen.

You should, Stitchy. Its really a great film and very well made, the subject matter fades and you appreciate its execution. The ex made me watch it and I am glad I did, I'd watch it again.

Compliance - I've never been so angry watching a movie as I was watching this one. Leaving aside the gullible sheep who sat around doing whatever heinous shit that a guy calling himself a cop told them to do (all of which they shouldn't do even if a real cop told them to), this whole thing could have been avoided if someone had taught this girl to ask for a lawyer. If parents aren't going to teach it then they should be teaching it in schools.

The Grifters - really excellent modern noir. I'm surprised I hadn't seen this before. The three leads are all great, especially Annette Bening. BTW, can anyone who's seen this tell me when it's supposed to be set? It seems like the 60s but I can't tell for sure.

its supposed to be 80's. did you notice that Scorsese narrates the beginning? Also all the bit actors are actually pretty familiar (even a Jeremy Piven sighting - with less hair on his head in a movie that was more than 20 years old).

There's a really good theater here and most of the time I want to go see at least one movie they're showing at any given time and they usually get new movies weekly.

Some good one's I've seen lately include 'Beware of Mr. Baker', a documentary on Ginger Baker, the drummer of Cream, 'Rust and Bone' and 'Smashed', to name a few.

Looking forward to the arrival of 'Amour' and 'John Dies at the End'.

Also watched 'Badlands' again recently, Malick is one of my favorites. Anyone seen 'Moonrise Kingsdom'? Those two movies sure have a lot in common.

I´ve watched "Badlands" a couple of times in the past year or so. Martin Sheen is one cool cat.

I am done 2 full seasons of The Fugitive...taking a break and watching Tombstone.

To those of you who still have not seen this film, I urge you to do so. It is a marvel to see and a true story.
There are a few moments that are disputed to this day. Most all of it actuallty happened more or less as shown.
I may even watch it twice back-to-back. That is how much I enjoy it.
