Robert Eggers Nosferatu

If you like Eggers’s style, you’ll likely like this. If not, probably best to skip.

For me, it was a really well done gothic horror. Count Orlok not exactly what one might expect, but so creepy.
Seen it yesterday, not too bad really as long as you don’t try to compare it to the original version, a masterpiece of German Expressionism.
I was expecting to be afraid but wasn’t. More gore than frightening.

Still can't believe Jim Carrey put out Ace Ventura, the Mask, and Dumb & Dumber in the same year. Ace Ventura probably holds up the least well now but nonetheless a remarkable run.

Tried to watch Megapolis. What and absolute turd. Boring, pretensions, overwrought, just absolutely lacking in every way.

Not quite as funny as I expected, but I liked it a lot. I'm getting more sentimental in my old age, so movies that are just sweet and well meaning are more appealing to me now.

The Brutalist (2025): 4.5/5

The acting, cinematography, score, and set design are as good as people are saying. The movie is long (3.5 hours), but there is a generous 15-minute intermission. I took half a point off because of the plot and its progression; the movie felt like it was trying to say too many things at once.

Is it the best movie production of the year? Absolutely. Did it have best story and impact? Not so much.
I agree with you about the story and I recognize that I maybe off here, but I thought it was one the best movies I've ever seen. The cinematography, the score, set design and the costumes (the fits were so good), that it makes up for the slightly weak plot. It's in my top 5 all time list. I'll likely go see it again.

Lift was a mediocre and forgettable movie, despite a serviceable premise and a good cast, but give Netflix credit for making it relatively cheaply.
Unlike, for example, Red Notice, which cost twice as much and was a steaming pile of garbage that wasn't even half as good.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
