The Russia House a well dressed, well directed by Fred Schepisi and a superb cast..interesting that it was filmed partly in Moscow & St Petersburg

Recent work trip to Europe led to plenty of airplane time.

Went on a Henry Cavill binge.

Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Decent. A fun romp, very loosely based on real events.

The Man from UNCLE, surprised how good this was and now disappointed this didn’t turn into a franchise. Loved the retro vibe and the clothes are 👍👍

Argyle. Omg. Don’t waste your time. Two and half hours I’ll never get back. Can’t decide if it’s a commasy or and action thriller. Twist after twist after twist. Most of which a so telegraphed you see them coming a mile away. Sam Jackson completely typecast and totally wasted in this. Ugh. It’s the very blueprint for a crappy movie. A two and half hour crappy movie.

I'm also re-watching my box set of Robin of Sherwood, which came 3 years after this and also has Robert Addie (Mordred in Excalibur, Guy of Gisbourne in Robin), who I just learned already passed away at the age of 43.

Excalibur is just epic. The unashamedly theatrical style is glorious.

New Alien and new Beetlejuice movies.

Alien was pretty good and brought back the original tone and feel while connecting the ****** prequels.

Beetlejuice was fun but not as good as the first. Felt like the story just skipped forward.

Alien went into the “whelp I’m never gonna bother with that one again” bucket along with the Alien vs Predator movies.

My wife is a big Beetlejuice fan and she said the sequel was only meh. I liked Romulus more than I expected, but I doubt I'll ever want to rewatch it. Kinda like Alien 3 and 4 and both AvP movies (I never watched the prequels).

I actually enjoy and rewatch these. They’re demented in a fun way, IMO. I just found Romulus formulaic and forgettable.

I should probably give 3 another go, it's been a while. The first half of 4 was great, but as soon as Ripley went crowd surfing in the aliens, it starts to suck hard.

The problem with the alien films, at least for me, is that they all boil down to “there’s alien creatures in the place we’re trapped, we need to either kill them or escape, oh and there’s a human third-party that’s going to screw us over while trying to profit off these things.”

I’m hoping the TV series with aliens on earth isn’t as predictable.

That said, I’ve seen most of the alien movies more than once. (Except for 3 because studio interference murdered that one).

The William Gibson’s screenplay would have been better.
You probably know there are two drafts, only the second was adapted in comics and in audio-book (with the voices of actors from Aliens).
The only thing to save in Alien 3 is the creature designed by Giger.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
