What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Do you like any Tarintino movies? I find Pulp Fiction is the only one that I think is really good.

Jackie Brown was pretty decent as was Inglorious Bastards, but I generally always come back to the adjective for all of his movies: gratuitous.

I prefer Jackie Brown to Pulp Fiction but yeah those are his best work. Inglorious Bastards annoyed me because I dislike his obsession with making up ahistorical revenge fantasy stories (Django, IB, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). There's something gross about it. It comes across as not much more than an excuse for letting his heroes commit "a little ultraviolence" while remaining Good Guys.

If there's any consistent theme in his films apart from his foot fetish it's that.

sheesh , the main themes of inglorious basterds are that all cinema ( maybe all art ) is propaganda and all audiences are complicit . the final shot is aldo carving a swastika into the forehead of the theater audience .

it's not my fave tarantino film , prob jackie brown , django , and reservoir dogs but it is probably ( as aldo says in the last frame ) his masterpiece .

There's this odd sense that he feels left out because he's just an average white guy, and he wishes he was Black, and/or Jewish, and/or a woman, because he would be a Totally Badass Black Jewess.

Lightyear was sort of the same for me. I also missed the first 20-30 mins but thought it was good for a kids flick and its own Toy Story universe.

I thought the same thing about Lightyear. I barely even noticed or cared that there was an LGBT character.

Tried to watch Uncut Gems today. Couldn't get past the hour mark. What a steaming pile of hot dog****.

I'll try to pick up again when I'm home alone so that no one else has to be tortured by the constant yelling and profanity.

Watched The Pelican Brief last night. It had a comically stupid premise, and yet it was really well-paced and entertaining. I loved the big reveal that Circuit Court litigants could appeal to (dun dun daaaaaa) The Supreme Court!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was OK. Interesting animation style and a good cast. They set it up for a sequel, but I don't know if it made enough money for that to ever happen.

I know others here hated it, so maybe it's because it overperformed my low expectations, but I thought Renfield was decent. Not good, necessarily, but an unobjectionable way to kill an hour and 45 minutes or so. I liked the stupidly excessive and cartoonish violence, but it wasn't nearly as funny as that cast is capable of being.
