I haven't seen the original, but I'd like to check it out.

For what it's worth, Cruise doesn't make it suck. His character is kind of a smarmy douche, so it wasn't much of a stretch.

Why do people hate on Cruise? I don't mind him in films.

To be honest, I don't hate him, but I'm not really a fan, either. There have been a lot of movies of his I've really enjoyed, but I can't say there are any where I've thought, "man, Tom Cruise was the only person who could have played that role."

    +1

It's outstanding, but prepared to feel like shit for engaging in any sort of vice whatsoever.

Watched Hesher and My Week With Marilyn the other night.

Hesher was different, but as a Metallica fan, Joseph Gordon Levitt's character kicked ass, running around in his dumpy black van, listening to classic Metallica, kicking ass and blowing shit up.

My Week With Marilyn was really good. Michelle Williams was excellent in it.

THe person I felt worst for in Requiem was the mother taking the diet pills.

Requiem is awesome. My friend took me to the theater and told me I had to watch it. I was stunned after the end. Probably my favorite film by Darren Aronofsky.

Vanilla Sky is shit. Cruz is unwatchable. Crowe might be one of the most overrated directors working today. With the exception of Almost Famous, everything else he's done is crap. Only good scene is post-accident when Cruise confronts that group of doctors who have engineered that fancy mask.

Cruise is pretty awesome for the most part. He's been in a many great films and plenty of good ones too. He may be a kook, but he stars in the kind of films that I want to watch.

Also, do not get the Michelle Williams love. Read an interview with her in GQ a few months back and she sounds like she's in dire need of counseling. That said, I really do want to watch Blue Valentine.

As a follow up, "All Good Things" was practically the same movie with Gosling in the lead. I don't understand the love for Kirsten Dunst either. Her acting does nothing for me.
