I've tried to get my wife to watch it with me, but she's worried that as a cancer survivor it would hit too close to home. What do you think - would it be too much?
I watched Serenity last night, after watching the entire run of Firefly over the prior week. What an awesome show! I'm tempted to start over and watch the whole thing again.
I made the mistake of starting to watch the version with Keira Knightley. Must forget it, and start the older version.
man thats hard to say. first off, congrats to you and your wife, i hope she stays well.
the movie was truly excellent. it wasnt overbearingly sobby, nor was it insultingly comedic. it touched on many of the hardships that cancer patients, their family, friends, heath care providers and people they meet may go through, while maintaining a realistic amount of light and human humor at appropriate times. on the one hand, it wasnt outlandishly unrealistic, which would be offensive. on the other hand it was imo pretty honest to real life, which some survivors appreciate, while for others it would also be very hard to stomach watching what they experienced first hand and reliving difficult personal memories.
thats my view on the movie, which again i thought was superb. the decision of what to do though, ill leave with you and your wife though as you know yourselves best. i hope i was able to help a little.
Good summary, thanks. Based on that I'll hold off a little longer, until we have a better sense that she's out of the woods. We're still waiting for a follow-up test after her last treatment.
We recently watched a phenomenal documentary called Crazy, Sexy Cancer. A young film-maker documented her diagnosis and treatment. Highly recommended to all cancer survivors, their caregivers and loved ones. In particular, she showed how the patient has to become both an expert and a self-advocate in order to navigate the medical labyrinth. She ultimately turns to alternative remedies, but she does so with her eyes open.
thanks for the movie rec, i hope you guys have only good news on the way.
Speaking of Dr. Zhivago, how hot was/is Julie Christie?
Ugh, I know! So hot in Shampoo and Heaven Can Wait.
Watched Love Crime with Ludivine Sagnier...OK
Tried to watch Horrible Bosses.....HORRIBLE. I stopped and put it back in the Netflix envelope 35 min in....
Cool Runnings is my favourite film of all time but recently I watched a film called MegaMind while staying at a friends and it was so funny.
Watched "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane" last night. Depressing.
I hope you stick around.
charlie wilson's war was great
The chick who played "jailbait" was so hot.
Six Hours - a group of loosely connected people prepare for the end of the world. Mildly interesting, but ultimately emotionally flat and forgettable.
Winter's Bone - I'm only half-way through this, but I'm really blown away by the authenticity of the setting and acting (mostly - the central character is a bit unbelievable).
