From 1953 with Yves Montand in one of his first major roles and with a rare 100% score on RT. Glad to finally have gotten around to this one, but I enjoyed William Friedkin's Sorcerer from 1977 more (which might just be because that was the adaptation of The Wages of Fear that I saw first).

"Full Metal Jacket" in HD which I only mention because I know HD is better quality but I'm not sure it really works here. I liked the grainy film quality apparent even on DVD. The HD is actually a bit disorienting (dissociative? not sure the right word here) when you remember it's not a new movie.

Anyway, just got to the one scene with Private Gomer Pyle in the barracks.... :(

Agree on super-HD — it somehow makes even expensive movies look cheap, akin to a camcorder.

"HD" from film sources should be grainy like real film. If it's not you're either watching a butchered version, or (more likely) you have some anti-grain filter on your video player / tv / computer / whatever. Those turn crisp grainy pictures into a digital mush and should be disabled or turned to a very low setting.

Yeah, are you sure you don't have shit turned on like motion smoothing?

Or are you watching a poorly encoded downloaded/streaming version?

Yeah I might. This is the first good TV I've owned so I don't really know what it's settings are. Watching on Netflix.

There might be something in Netflix that can change quality as well.

TV default settings tend to be pretty gross.

See if you can find a setup guide for your model on a site like rtings or cnet (or a forum like avsforum).

They usually turn off all the crap and get your color settings somewhere decent.

Bought Oceans 11 for $2 on DVD. Forgot what a fun flick it was.

Also looking forward to this one. I’ve always considered Mister Rogers the closest thing to a Saint in our lifetimes.

The Godfather looks decent and it's also a Netflix stream so who knows. I really love this movie. Must be the 10th or so time I've seen it.

Michael's ambivalence really connects with this viewing. But I do think his development is a bit too fast and not entirely justified.

    Godfather part III.

Just realized I dont know if I've ever seen it (or all of part II for that matter).

Anyway this is a good way to see how painful Corleones arc is. It's so harsh you have to remind yourself how awful a person he is.

Nvm the first two do that. The third is just a bit too much.
