Iwas at an interview and was asked. What motivates you? I am pretty sure i bombed the interview because i couldnt give this guy a single thing that motivates me. What motivates everyone here?

gm, one suggestion - that type of question is usually used to see how well you know yourself. I would take an on line personailty test, and use that as a base to answer that kind of question in future interviews.

back to subject - what motivates me?

1. money - a lot less than I used to think, but I like money.
2. recognition - not proud of this, but the best motivations that I ahve had in the past have had to do with stupid little things that my employers used to recognize my achievments. I used to be part of a team of 250 people who got commisions, manager and salesmen, and I was in fierce competition to be in the top 5% every quarter. I would do crazy things to stay on top.
3. friends and family - both related to 1 and 2, and just to make them happy
4. goals I set for myself. this was probrably number one for some parts of my life, and now is lower in priority, unfortunatly.

To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their women.

Money motivates me, but it's probably not such a good idea to tell people that is your biggest driving force in an interview.

My own will only, nothing else. But a more interesting question would be: what makes me "to will"?

Basically those job interview guys who come up with such questions expect a very specific answer- and this ideal is not of a very philosophical nature, I can tell you that. It's about taking a discreet if dishonest route between hypocrisy and greed (which is also called "honesty" by them since they presuppose their own low ethical ideals for everyone else).

My two main motivators would have to be:

1) My Daughter

2) A Canuker my S/O

Doesn't the quote go, "I feel the need, the need for succeed," or something like that? I just want to succeed; money, security and the like all are components, but recognizing that you have accomplished something really just makes these things gravy.

Oh and globetrotter, tell us about #1!
