I like this a lot. That is pretty good instruction on timeless decorating.

I was always told that good, old, french furniture will never go out of style. I think that's largely true.

dislike the Kate Spade apartment. I like the kitchen, but everything else looks too cluttered to my eye.

But it's cool that they framed StephenHero's avatar and put it up on their wall.

Sounds like Upper East Side style for the 65+ aged crowd.

Never stick with one style of furniture, always mix . Eclectic interiors are teh best.

Agreed. It seems fun and playful at first, like a modern take on an old manor home. But the more you look at it, the more cluttered and overwrought it looks. There's no sense of restraint. It's a cacophany of too many instruments' playing simultaneously and unharmoniously.

This is generally true. You never want to look too "matchy-matchy" or set-like. You'll appear unimaginative at best, and tacky at worst. The better approach is to mix eclectic elements that still work well together. It's much easier said than done. All too easy to go overboard, as seen in Kate Spade's place.

looking at it more, I don't mind the many picture frames, I'm putting a lot up on my wall (only because my walls are not made of concrete, might as well do something). But she has **** like two lamps sitting next to each other, and those pictures at the center of the page ... looks like an unorganized antiques bazaar.

And this is what happens when you dedicate "3 years to decorate"

as mentioned, this can be tricky to do without looking like a "first time apartment" with a bunch of hand me down furniture from Nana. I'd go with a few well spent room anchors (an awesome sofa, quality bookcases) and then accessorize with different styles from there for the smaller pieces. But, that's my opinion, I'm certain most people here would hate my apartment.

In the days of everything being eclectic, wouldn't uniformity be somewhat refreshing?

That painting hangs in the St. Louis Art Museum.

Besides her impeccable taste in portraiture, I don't like Kate Spade's place either. YSL's home was cluttered in a much more interesting way. But he owned originals.

Tony Duquette. So non-genre that it's always relevant. Although I prefer the arabesque/Orientalist looks at the bottom to the 'Hedonist Shrine' look in the first image. Not that I would mind it, of course. YSL's interiors are always good stuff as well. The eye needs to be constantly entertained.
