What makes a double breasted suit look dated?

I had one that the moths ate before I ever really wore it. The fact that it spent its life in my closet has discouraged me from buying another, though that doesn't mean I don't appreciate nice ones on other guys.

The width looks good to me. How old is that? Paul Stuart in Chicago has never had a single DB suit since I have been here (1996). edit: I have a navy DB blazer from Ralph which I pair with much the same combo you have. A brown cashmere tie is a nice touch.

Well, when they contain my dated carcass they probably all do. And I like DB suits.

Very low set and horizontal peaks + outset shoulders = 1930's

Narrow lapels on a DB don't necessarily look dated, just bad.
