My boss wears one every day. He's 50+ years old an a super boffin. He's world expert in satellite data assimilation for numerical weather prediction.

His work uniform usually consists of RM Williams boots, chinos, white shirt and bow tie. In the winter he'll wear wear a red cardigan vest under his sports jacket. If he dresses up he'll wear a suit with Alden tassel loafers.

Bow ties are for the needy class. Or the elderly. They are for the most part overly attention grabbing and gaudy.

I don't know about that. Sometimes a bowtie looks good in a preppy manner.
At weddings as well with a tux looks great.
    Also if you're 007.

I'm thin. It looks good as long as it matches with what I'm wearing. I don't often wear it tho because I don't live in the setting where I deem it appropriate. However I have at a few shennanigans and no one can diss it when it practically makes the look.

Eccentrics, the elderly, academics, nerds and senior partners//Chairmen in law firms etc.

It is not a factor of being fat or any other physical feature - that is merely stigmatising the tie and the wearer.

Jerome do a search, evaluate this for yourself. There are many style blogs with pictures of young men wearing bow ties. It depends on what you are wearing and wear you are going. If you are headed to the country club, a bow tie is appropriate for anyone dressed with something that compliments it.

I think that men who wear bow ties gracefully are those who feel comfortable in them. Simple as that.
