I'm looking for some kind of sport coat/blazer. A classic navy blazer seems too formal for southern california...any suggestions?

Also, what are some fairly inexpensive brands that I could look into?

Cotton seems the obvious choice: couple of buttons, unlined, no padding.
The slightly smarter alternative would be something in a wool/linen mix but, again, without shoulder padding etc.

Corduroy and cotton are about as dressed down as you can get.

What do you call inexpensive?

I believe all those affectations were invented by the big boys.

All depends on your definition of the big boys. I know all about Agnelli but I see the affectations most commonly in magazine photo spreads and ads like the one linked, in a desperate attempt to add a 'fashion' aspect to a long standing style and ultimately get us to part with more cash. This is why I have nothing but contempt for the sheep who follow these habits. If you wear a button collar shirt and don't fasten the buttons you look ridiculous. Why don't you just wear a shirt without collar buttons? You are either absent minded, or a slob, neither of which would seem to be traits of someone with aspirations towards classical style. If on the other hand you are copying the likes of Agnelli then you are a sheep.

Suede, Corduroy, Cotton Twill, Herringbone Tweed pretty much work for the casual dress down look.

Whats the difference between copying turned back sleeves or unbuttoned BDs and copying a pocket square or french cuffs? It's just another element.

And are you suggesting that everything you wear is original and not copied? You copied EVERYTHING you wear from someone. I don't see why it would be a point of shame anyway. I copy other people all the time. If I see something I like, why not duplicate it.

Also, InB4 someone posting Phat Guido/whoever.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
