Lionel Loueke's new album Mwaliko. It's good.

Saw him at a workshop a few weeks ago at Berklee. Incredible human being.

Saw him a few weeks ago in Chicago @ Jazz Showcase and he was incredible there[IMG]

Great choice, B. For some reason, Joe Segal (generally an avant garde hater) loves Dewey Redman and he was the only "out" player that Joe would book at the Jazz Showcase. Whoda' thunk it.

Yeah, hard to figure. Probably the "Texas Tenor" thing. Segal always tells the "fire in a pet shop" joke about the out stuff.

Joe's contempt for free music is only matched by his dislike for blues (which he typifies as "my baby kicked me in the head"), rap and country.

He also has a dislike for jazz vocalists that stray away from the standards[IMG]

I was suprised (but happy) when he brought in Rene Marie.

I've been on a Plugged Nickel marathon while watching basketball on mute. On disk five right now.

Mmm, Miles boxed set. Interesting. No jazz box beats Art Pepper's Vanguard shows but that is prob awesome.

I like the complete In A Silent Way sessions a bit more from Miles. This is my favorite boxed set.

Horace requires a certain mood. Like a jittery, get-s#!t-done mood.

A buddy of mine and I went to a Dee show at the Green Mill a while back and her trio was warming up the crowd for the beginning of the second set. I had a long day and started to nod off...I felt a nudge and turned around...it was Dee grinning at me and laughing. Great photos, BTW, Monty.

US FIVE Joe Lovanao 's band (w/Esperanza Spalding on bass) Sat night @ Chicago's Jazz Showcase. I joined some fellow SFs for a nice time with good music, good drinks, and nice company.

Great time, Monty! I really like the photos (much better than my crummy iPhone shots. LOL).

The Mrs. and I enjoyed meeting you. She told me that I can't wear a porkpie like Joe's.
