Do suits have sizes? I've always bought custom, I don't know what size I would be...

I believe that taking in a jacket that is a 42 one inch is not going to make the jacket a 41. We are dealing with shoulder and chest measurements and it would be a costly alteration to do. Also you would have to shorten the collar and that would change the balance and button stance of the coat. Not advisable if you ask me.
My tailor has taken a 44L down to a 42L with beautiful success. Oh, yes, for free.
My motion was seconded? Awesome. Jon.

Ah, finally someone around here with a sense of humor.
50 regular but a 35-36 inch waist.
I guess I'm a candidate for the old MTM or Custom.
If only I can convince my bank account.
Chest size 40", but 42 jackets usually fit my shoulders better. I need to pump some iron.
According to this study, the average male chest (bust) size in the US is 37.35" with a sigma of 2.64.
Does that include children? That doesn't seem possible.
In this thread, when we say chest size, we usually mean the widest part of the chest. If you looked at chest size at the nipples (where bust size would make more sense), it seems more plausible.
But, it doesn't read whether it includes children or not. There's also no date, so the data could be many years old.
Bust size is actually measured under the breasts, or man-boobs in this application. I am thinking it may be old data or include children. I imagine the average in US for suit-wearing adults is 40 to 42.
You're kidding me right? I can ALWAYS find quality 40R sutis on sale for anywhere between 50-80% off. Just walk into any Filene's basment and you perpetually have a choice of basic Oxxfords and Zegna's to choose from...
now try competing with the rest of the smurfs (36-38S), and then you can complain.
37 L (but since almost all jackets start their Long at 38, I have mostly 38 L), how would you like me to answer?
Separate names with a comma.
