The black wingtip thread got me to a-thinkin' - what is your go-to shoe when you need to kick ass at work?

For me, when I need to perform at a hearing, deposition, trial or other big event, it's my black wingtip Vass P2s. Something about strapping on those things and clunk, clunk, clunking down the hall gets me on (what is left of) my game.

While my brown Weymouths are my favorite match with a navy suit, when I need to dig down deep, I know where to go.

FWIW, the rest of the outfit is a navy chalkstripe flannel BB (winter) or pinstripe BB (summer) suit, purple check Hildeetch and purple/bottle green/yellow Hickey tie.

Now all I need is a real watch.

Pair of elephant boots. They are rare, tougher than $2 steak (yet simultaneously elegant), have survived days on the ranch & in the boardroom (as well as regular dousings of spilled keg beer in my youth), and make me stand a little taller and walk with a bit of John Wayne attitude. They impart to me an aura that projects to others, "I may not entirely own your aS$, but I've at least got a lien on it."

They are The Impossible Cool.

For a typical business day, any one of my Alden longwings. For special occasions, John Lobb Vale, Philip II, or Becketts.

These Sanders slip-ons:

I have vintage Florsheim longwings and Church's wingtip oxfords, but to me the broguing says "I'm relaxed," while the austere slip-ons say, "No messing around." The leather isn't great though. Someday, I'd like to get a better pair, same style.
