Europeans-unlike Americans-do not have a daily shower habit, which is why bidets are a customary feature in homes and hotels.

Really, I think Americans are the only ones who place a distinct emphasis on daily showers or even two a day.

Last year we bought a condo from an extremely "colorful" man, if you know what I mean. Luckily, he took most of his "art" collection with him, as well as certain touches like the twin "Liberace style" candelabra sitting on the edge of the tub in the guest bathroom. We decided that we liked his deep purple shower curtain and matching fake snakeskin purple wallpaper there. We also replaced the silverplate ice bucket that he had sitting on the tub. To complete the look, we have been keeping a bottle of champagne in that bucket, along with some fake (glass) ice cubes that I bought on e-bay. I wound up getting more ice cubes than I needed, so I took the extras with me to Paris and gave them to my friend E****t (banned), thinking that the French could use them. He gave some thought to using them to scam some waiters, by complaining that something was wrong with his ice, but decided that they were not authentic enough, as they did not float.
    The distinguished gentleman.

I think that Europe would be much nicer if there weren't so many goddamn Americans there. I mean, If I wanted to see fat, poorly dressed, lazy, common, baseball cap wearing, be-sandaled, Frommers reading, overweight slobs, I would vacation in Kansas City!

    This was a joke.

I think the UWS is a competitor for the ubiquitos dog shit award (as well as certain areas around Washington Heights). Also NYC is too dirty in the summer.

I don't recall that much shit, at least not dog's, in WH. Maybe I was too busy checking out the half naked girls walking up and down 181st to notice [IMG]

How about women who don't shave their legs or pits [IMG]

and by extension, their kitty. Don't need to go Kojak, but no need for an afro either.

France was also the first place I ever saw a cat on the leash. What's up with that? Of course, it was someone taking their cat to the vet , but still...
I'm going for the Nerval habit.

It would help if you were insane.

"Human existence projects itself in breadth, and in height; it not only strides forth, but also mounts upward. In both respects, therefore, it is possible for human existence to go too far, to become Extravagant." Ludwig Binswanger

I would call out Nerval's lobster as "extravagant" [IMG]

How about a few things you'll never see here that Europe has.

(1.)Bocce ball in public plazas under palm trees.

Bocce is standard fare at my family gatherings. Jersey may not have palm trees, but I promise the game is just as rewarding under oaks and maples. [IMG]

Open up the doors of one the public washrooms, look at the floors, and see why.
